2018 was a pretty good year for the Corporate Cup with a few new runners joining, and a few older runners getting to significant milestones. The Milers have two teams (of 15 runners) in the comp - the Magic Milers and the Midday Milers, with both teams have some handy results.
The first series of the year kicked off well with both teams finishing top ten in the pointscore (44 teams), and equal 5th in the Team Representation. The Magic were in their customary 2nd position in the Fast Team comp (to the Legal Eagles), and finished 4th in the Knockout Trophy.
Cathy Liu ran her final series for the Magic and was fastest female overall with a hugely quick 22.50 - just knocking off her nemesis by 10 seconds from Macquarie Nomads, while David Drentin and Miles Waring were fastest in their age groups with Gigi Lovicu 2nd fastest to David. Michael Bishop was the biggest individual point scorer for the Bank with 95 points.
The winter series was a tad quiet for the teams, with team representation down a bit and so the points dropped as well, but Magic were second in the Fast Team comp.
Individually there were some nice results. Gabi de Freitas was the top point scorer in her age group with 107 points (and top scored for the Milers for the series). David Drentin, Miles Waring and Matt Gibson were the fastest in their age groups, while Carl Cois was second fastest to Matt. Some nice speed going on there.
In the last series the Midday's came 4th in terms of overall pointscore, and the Magic were 3rd in the Fast Team comp. In the Team Representation the Middays were 3rd and Magic 5th, and in the Knockout Trophy the Midday's were 3rd.
Individually, Katie Healey, David Drentin and Gigi Lovicu were fastest in their age groups, and James Greenwood finished off a great year scoring 124 points for the team.
Big milestones included 100 runs for Venn Hardy, 400 runs for Rod Phillips, 400 runs for Colin Armstrong and 450 runs for Damien Gay. Great work. You can have a badge for that.

It was decided that given the G-Man has been an icon of CC Contribution, he was a more than worthy figurehead for a trophy to celebrate the biggest contributor to the Corporate Cup across the calendar year.
In all there were 37 runners who represented the Milers across the 3 series, 24 Milers ran in all three series, 11 ran a minimum of 16 runs.... 5 of those ran a minimum 17 runs... and 2 ran all 18. One of those also scored 251 points along the way, picked up a lot of fast points, and finished with a sub-23min run. On that basis it was pretty easy to see that Gigi Lovicu was a very worthy winner of the trophy in its first year. Nice work Gigi.

Not wanting to finish on a downer but this year also saw one of the Midday Milers Corporate Cup runners pass away - Leon Xu. Leon ran 63 runs for the Milers, and was always a smiley face on course. The first run of 2019 will be dedicated to him.
